It is appeared as an simple and convivial interface whose function is the reading of multimedia files (pictures, sounds, movies) some is their source (CD, DVD, hard disks, local area network, Internet etc...).

UMC is distributed in two forms :

  • In the form of a Live CD based on Ubuntu, it is an operating system ready to use : all is integrated (codecs, containers, pilots, audio and video readers…) and loaded in RAM. Perfect to transform an old PC into true multi-media center, it is possible to install it on the hard disk.
  • In the form of a software, which it is possible to install on Ubuntu via apt or Synaptic. It has exactly the same characteristics that the Live CD version, but is rather planned for an occasional use on the computer of the every day. We can launch it manually like any software.
